Farm City Fall Festival and Health Fair

Farm City Banquet – The Farm City Banquet had been a mainstay on fall calendars for decades and had been held closer to the actual Farm/City week, which had always been on the calendar for the week ending on Thanksgiving Day. The banquet has been a cooperative effort of Mill Hall Kiwanis, Clinton County Conservation District, Penn State Cooperative Extension, USDA Farm Service Agency, Clinton County Farm Bureau, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The banquet seemed to decline in attendance, so the organizers determined to have a new event that would showcase agriculture and demonstrate the ties between farm and city. In late August of 2005 a Farm City Day was held on the grounds of the Clinton County Resource and Education Center along Route 64, one mile north of the truck stops. The day was filled with farm machinery displays and demonstrations, 4-H displays, an exhibit from the Heisey Museum, and participation by KCnet, among others. Some of the activities held throughout the day included a hay bale toss, a milking contest, a pie auction, a milk chugging contest and farm tours. The new format for the Farm/City celebration was definitely a success but seemed destined to quickly outgrow the location.

Fall Family Festival – This event was begun in September of 1992. It has always been an event sponsored by the Fair Association and designated as a way of thanking folks for supporting the fair. An admission fee has never been charged for the festival, and the craft show and many of the family activities, such as a doubles horse shoe tournament, scarecrow making, pumpkin decorating, and entertainment have been provided without cost. For the first year only the festival was held for two days.

There were many people who served on both the Farm City Day Steering committee and the Fall Family Festival Committee. When the Farm City Day committee realized that the event would quickly outgrow the county Resource and Education Center facility, it seemed a no-brainer to combine the two events and hold it at the fairgrounds. Thus The Farm City Family Festival was born.

The Event was a huge success this year. Please check back for more info on the 2011 Farm City Family Festival and Health Fair.
